Message from the Chairman – Mr. David Vale
I am writing to you all after the government have issued their latest guidelines to combat
Our football will continue for now, however, the following measures MUST be adhered to
by all attending any of our fixtures at any venue to ensure that everyone is kept as safe as
Social Distance as per Government guidelines, League Risk Assessment and venue
requirements must be strictly followed at all times
A Test and Trace system must be in place for every team each week. Following an
FA email sent on 22nd September 2020, this may be facilitated by using the NHS QR
code system along with the NHS Test and Trace App. This will not be available
until 24th September 2020.
Every Club must have a COVID-19 Officer and their name and email must be
registered with the League Secretary.
A Respect Marshall for each team must be on duty at each fixture to monitor social
distancing and supporter behaviour. They must wear the appropriate League
issued fluorescent bib.
Only 1 spectator per player is allowed at any venue.
No portable substitute benches are to be used to ensure players can social distance
when not on the field of play.
Arrive no earlier than 20-30 minutes before KO, this will allow time to organise the
fixture and to prepare the players.
Notify Fixtures, Age Group Secretaries, opposition and Referee at the earliest
opportunity if you are unable to play. Please complete a postponement form

It was very disappointing to hear that we had some notifications of incidents of bad
behaviour in our first two weeks of returning. This will not be tolerated and I ask all of our
Clubs/Teams to put in measures to stamp this out.
Failure to adhere to the Government guidelines, Public Health England, FA and League rules
may mean that fixtures will be suspended in addition to FA sanctions. Guidelines are
constantly being updated and any changes will be emailed to Clubs by the League.
By working together and observing current rules and regulations, we can all continue to
safely enjoy our football. Please help us to keep our football a safe environment for

Covid 19 And Grassroots Football

We have been made aware that spot checks are being carried by Local Authorities and Facility Managers.
We do feel that this will intensify moving forward, so it is particularly important that we do all we can to demonstrate best practice and ultimately provide a safe environment for our football..
Our feeling is that we are currently on a knife edge and we need to do everything that we can to avoid a further suspension of the game. The Government is keen for outdoor sport to continue at the moment but only if we can prove that we can do this safely, mitigating the risk of further infection.
With this in mind could I ask you all to ensure you do all you can to assist. This begins with insisting that we only have one supporter per player in attendance at matches. I know there is a temptation to turn up as we used to and it was evident on Sunday that some teams have reverted back to allowing more parents to attend than should. This inevitably leads to grouping at the side of the pitch and is really unfair on teams who are following the guidance. We must insist that parents remain socially distanced at all times with our appointed Respect Marshalls ensuring this is adhered too.
We will be checking “Test and Trace” paper registers on Sunday across all centres to ensure the numbers registered match the allowed numbers – please don’t put us in the position where we have to ask supporters to leave the venue to sit in their car.
The new QR codes will be on display if people want to try this system – you just need to download the nhs covid-19 app onto your smartphone.
Also, please ensure the following:
- Do not attend if you or anyone at home has a temperature, a new persistent cough or a loss or change in sense of taste or smell.
- Competitive match play is permitted but social distancing is to be adhered to before and after matches.
- Supporters, parents and other spectators should follow social distancing rules.
- Spectator groups must be restricted to local and national gathering limits .
- Players and officials should sanitise hands before, during and after games.
- Team managers should wear gloves and Mask when the enter the field of plat to treat players.
- Only travel with those in your family bubble.
- Please take all litter with you.
- Be respectful of other users of the Park or Playing Fields

Statement From Adam Evans – Staffs FA CEO
Staffs FA CEO Adam Evans Issued the following on 1st June:
I hope that you are all safe and well.
Since my last update there have been a number of developments with the current situation continuing to move at pace. The latest relaxation of the Government restrictions that came into effect on the 1st of June now allows for up to six people to meet outside of the home and the Football Association has had to work quickly to issue guidelines for the game in response to this.
Whilst welcoming the government’s relaxation to allow some form of football activity, we recognise that the nation is still managing this situation and our priority remains to protect the health of our members, volunteers and staff to continue to suppress the spread of Covid-19. Our actions now could ultimately have an impact on how soon we can return to some form of normality with a phased return to the game.
For those of us who love and miss the game the return of the Premier League on the 17th of June I’m sure will be welcomed and will provide optimism for a return for us as well, but to be clear the latest guidance issued by the Football Association is not a return of the grassroots game. At this point there is no further news on when the grassroots game will return and the guidelines are not intended to encourage mass club training sessions and indeed, any kind of activity should only be arranged if it is safe and appropriate to do so.
As outlined in the FA statement, the option to partake in permittable football activity is a personal choice and whilst there are those who will want to return to football activity as soon as possible, there will be those with genuine concerns or personal circumstances that make this difficult. The overriding consideration has to be the safety and wellbeing of all in attendance and if this cannot be guaranteed or have any doubts then we would strongly advise you to err on the side of caution when making a decision. The FA will shortly be issuing advice for facility providers, coaches, safeguarding officers and players which, when available, can be found on our website here along with additional details to help answer any questions you may have at this time. We would urge you to read this guidance before making any further arrangements.
Many of you have contacted us in regard to affiliation / membership for the 2020-2021 season. Firstly I would like to advise you that due to the current circumstances we have arranged for those of you who took out either Public Liability or Personal Accident Insurance with Sportsguard in the 2019 -2020 season that your cover remains valid up until the 1st of July 2020. We have continued to monitor the situation and consulted with key stakeholders in regard to membership. Our stance has been that until we know when the new season will start and how it will look, then we do not think it will be appropriate to add pressure on members, particularly as cash flow will be an issue at the moment. We have our members’ best interest at heart and as such we are putting together a ‘return to football’ package but until we know the full financial impact of Covid-19 on the local game we will not be in a position to release further detail. We have a commitment to provide an appropriate service to our members which you have become accustomed to over the last couple of years and it is a key priority to ensure that this is maintained, particularly to assist in a return to the game.
That said, we have listened to our members who have told us that it would be helpful to allow a ‘soft’ opening of the membership window so that they can begin the administration process and I can confirm this will be available from the 15th of June 2020. It is important to state that we will not be requesting payment and clubs will not receive an affiliation number until there is more detail about how the new season will look. We will invoice for costs at a later date enabling clubs to get back onto their feet following this significant period of downtime.
It’s sometimes difficult to remember what point we are at in the season due to the current situation and I think that it would be remiss of me not to mention the work of our grounds staff at this time of the year. We have moved from a period of continuous rain during the winter to a sustained period of dry weather and whilst this has been welcomed by most of us during lockdown, this has not assisted our grounds staff in their preparation work. June is traditionally the close season and this aligns to the seasonal weather we are used to. This is a period when pitches are being renovated in preparation for the new season with new grass starting to grow. This is specialist work that takes time and costs money and is no different this season. Whilst we are all keen to get back out and partake in whatever format is permitted, we need to remember that the work carried out on the pitches now will affect their condition for the duration of the season when this is decided.
Finally, we are all keen to get back up and running and we will do so as soon as this is permittable within the Government restrictions and above all, safe to do so. Please adhere to Government Restrictions, FA guidance and stay safe, the game will be back but we need to remain patient.
Applications Open For 2020-2021 Season
Applications are open to join Walsall Junior Youth Football League for the 2020/2021 season. We know how difficult last season was for everybody and as such have done our upmost to offer reduced rates for teams from last season. The cost for teams that participated in WJYL 19/20 will be a reduced rate of £25 per team, while the cost for new teams will be £50 per team. Our aim as always is to make our league as inclusive as possible and we’d encourage any teams with specific concerns to contact us.

Obviously there is a lot going on in the football world today and people are concerned about grassroots games. As is correct we’ll be lead by Government and FA guidance which is rapidly changing. Currently there is no advice to suspend grassroots games in England and unless that advice changes we will play this weekends fixtures with a strong emphasis that Govt guidelines on hand washing and fist/elbow bumps be followed. Please check and follow all rules on self isolation and ensure anyone showing symptoms follows NHS advice.
With that said, we know there will be huge strength of feeling and some will not want to play. Our league is created to provide a safe environment for families who want to play football to do so. We think it’s only right that if any team/referee/player/parent decides they would rather stay away then they should have the freedom to make that decision without any negative consequences. As is always the case participation in our games is a choice and as things currently stand we believe the correct thing to do is to make it clear that nobody will face sanction for choosing not to participate. If your team decide they do not wish to play please NOTIFY ALL OF THE FOLLOWING BY MIDDAY ON SATURDAY 14th MARCH AT THE LATEST:

We can then attempt to rearrange games (where possible) and update the fixtures ASAP (keep an eye on fixtures for late changes). The purpose of any fines is to discourage teams from turning up to find that their opposition hasn’t bothered. This is obviously disrespectful and irresponsible.
We’ll do our very best to keep you all updated via the normal channels (Facebook/Web/Email), please do not inundate us with messages. This situation is changing rapidly so please monitor not only our channels but also the current NHS and Govt advice which is available below.

Coaches CPD event at Rushall Olympic – How we coach
Hosted on Wednesday 22 January 2020, learners will discover more about how their behaviours influence players, training sessions and their own personal development along the coaching pathway. The course is set to get underway at 6:30pm and is expected to run until 9pm.
Specifically, the workshop will allow coaches to learn how to manage differences between players, cope with mistakes, and how to adapt approaches for players’ individual needs, whilst working closely with Staffordshire FA tutors.
It will also highlight the importance of regularly reflecting on coaching behaviours and how effective they are at installing a positive environment at training and on matchdays.

Walsall Junior Youth League Friday Futsal League 2019/20
The Walsall Junior Youth Football League and Staffordshire FA are working in partnership with Birmingham Futsal Club in order to offer opportunities for Grassroots teams within the Walsall Junior Youth Football League and surrounding leagues to play futsal.
We are delighted to join with Birmingham Futsal Club to utilise their expertise and contacts. There will be opportunities for players to engage with Birmingham Futsal Club in a variety of ways during the season.Teams must be a affiliated as a Football Team with a County FA in order to be eligible to play in this league.
Primarily this will be taking place at Oak Park Active Living Centre in Walsall Wood on Friday evenings, however should there be low numbers at an age group then some ages may be relocated to The Sports hall, Walsall Campus, Wolverhampton University, to ensure that there are enough teams to run a competition.The deadline for the expression of interest is Monday 30th September.
An induction evening for coaches (compulsory a representative from the team attends) will be held on Friday 4th October (at Oak Park – time tbc) and the first week of Futsal will be Friday 11th October.
The League for each age group will run for a minimum of 8 weeks and will cost £25 for a 40 minute fixture, there will be 2 kick off times a night, one will be around 6pm, the other around 7pm.
We will be offering a Futsal L1 coaching course – time and date tbc, this will not be a requirement to start playing.
The League has been supported by funding through the Football Foundation.

After another huge success we are pleased to announce the date of this year’s football tournament and as you applied last year we are giving you the opportunity to apply first. The tournament has built a reputation as one of the best organised tournaments in the midlands with excellent pitches.
Applications will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and only when an application form and payment has been received. Places are limited and fill up quickly so please apply early to avoid disappointment. Entry is frozen at £35 and cheques are to be made payable to Brewood Juniors FC. All ages are competitive with individual and team trophies awarded to all winners. NB. There is a maximum of 12 players per team for under 11 and under 12. 10 players for under 8, under 9 and under 10 and 8 Players for under 7. All ages are 7 a side apart from under 7 which are 5 a side. No academy players permitted.

Wyrley Juniors Poppies
Wyrley Juniors FC is again producing stick on poppies for it’s teams to wear during matches on Remembrance Sunday weekend. To matk 100 years of the ending of WW1, the Club has produced special poppies as detailed in the picture below. The club is aiming to raise £2000 towards The Poppy Appeal and has 650 poppies remaining. Wyrley make nothing from this at all but with other teams’ help will contribute to a fantastic cause. FA Publish Mini Soccer and Futsal Handbook
The FA have released a new handbook designed to benefit young players and coaches involved in Mini Soccer and Futsal. The handbook is available to download below and is designed:
– To update the Mini Soccer laws of the game and add in new optional laws that have been approved via the Leagues Pilot Scheme
– To encourage Mini Soccer and Youth Leagues to embed Futsal into their offer
– To raise awareness of Futsal and the benefits of Futsal to young players and to educate people on the laws of Futsal
– To promote the need to create a player centred environment providing the very best introduction to the game

This includes all ages groups and formats of football from U7s to U16s.
3G pitches will be inspected at 10.30 on Saturday morning and a decision made focussing on the welfare of the children. This will be based on the pitch conditions, safety of the pitch surroundings & roads and the weather forecast for Sunday.

Cancellation of WJYFL Fixtures Meeting – 4th January 2018
Please note that the fixtures meeting planned for this Thursday has been cancelled.
The mini soccer fixtures for January have been emailed and are also on the League web site.
Teams who need to register players should contact John Coleman directly and arrange a time to take the paperwork to his house. Please note that this must be done before midday on Friday 5th January 2018. John can be contacted on 01922 866489.
As we enter the second half of the season there were a number of issues that I wanted to pick up with regards to Mini Soccer, and I will raise at the fixtures meeting on the 26th January, however, it is worth listing them now:
It is important to note that Coaches set the example to all. If they are calm and respectful to other coaches, refs etc it has a massive effect on the parents and players. All coaches should be asked to adopt a purely positive attitude to everything that happens and to really see things for what they are – an opportunity for children to play football in a safe environment and have some fun along the way. Please remember the coach is responsible for the behaviour of players and team spectators.
Administration & Organisation:
- Have money and player registration sheet ready on arrival at Centre.
- Even better get a parent to sort it for the Manager each week.
- Arrive on time, ie at least 10 minutes before kick off.
- Remember to hand in the player registration sheet at the end of the game with scores entered in the bottom section and signed off.
- Car Parking – Ask parents to park as requested at all centres. This is for safety reasons and to ensure that the centres do not interfere with residents and other users of facilities.
- Referee abuse – Most Referees are under 18 and Children. Continuous criticism of Referees will not be tolerated.
- Given the number of games the instances of abuse are few, but it is still not acceptable at all.
- Foul throws – All teams need to work on taking legal throw-ins, particularly under 9’s and under 10’s.
- Managers encroaching on the pitch – With Respect barriers in place there is no excuse for Managers to be on the field of play, they spoil the enjoyment of the games for the players and it can be dangerous.
- Make sure team equipment, bags, drinks bottles etc are well clear of the edge of the field of play.
- Make sure your team is ready to kick off at the correct time. Some teams are still having team talks when the Referee and opposition are lined up to play. This is not acceptable.
- Two minutes only for half time.
- After your first game, if you do not have a break, move immediately to your next pitch. There is no time for another team talk.
- After your final game move from the field of play immediately before you give your team talk. There is another games ready to start.
- Warming up – At 3g Centres there is not always room to warm up on the playing surface, so use grassed areas near-by, but make sure boots are cleaned before going on the pitches.
Please make sure all coaches in your club are aware of these points.

Sunday 10 December. In line with Sandwell Council decision to call off all their council pitches this coming Sunday, the soccer Centre at Bustleholme (both 9v9 and mini soccer) will be OFF this coming weekend.

All attendees at Grace Academy each Sunday are reminded that a 5mph limit exists. The car park is particularly busy on a Sunday with football, church and school users, mainly children. There is a one way system that is clearly marked and ‘in’ and ‘out, gates. The ‘out’ gates open on approach.
At Grace Academy and all other centres, please can all drivers and walkers be aware of other users of the facilities and take care at all times following instructions and steward directions when given. Given the centres are often very busy it would be useful if teams could car share wherever possible to reduce congestion.

Mini soccer – results and fixtures update 11 October
Sorry everyone, I accidentally sent the half completed email last night, and the distribution list is so large I am not able to send another within a certain time frame.
Please find on the web site revised results & tables from Sunday. They divisions affected are:
- Under 9’s North B & South A
- Under 7’s E & F
- Under8’s L
I have also updated the fixtures for the knockout stages of:
- Under10’s Premier
- Under10’s Major
- Under 10’s Serie
- Under 9’s North
We will endeavour to make the presentations to the group winners of the under 7’s and 8’s on Sunday at the Centres.
